The U.S. EPA's household moisture guidance recommends keeping relative humidity under 60%, preferably around 30–50% where possible. This is general building guidance, not a SEFIRE acceptance test. The appropriate target also depends on climate, the building and its cold surfaces.
EPA advises addressing moisture collecting on windows, walls or pipes and reducing the moisture source. Do not rely on a satisfactory reading in the middle of the room when nearby finishes are visibly wet.
If water approaches electrical connections, stop use and have the installation made safe before inspection. Persistent wet finishes, leaks or musty odors need investigation; increasing airflow alone does not establish that the cause has been fixed.
